India as Invited Country at SAN SEBASTIÁN GASTRONOMIKA 2017

The 19th edition of San Sebastián Gastronomika (SSG17) was held at the Kursaal Palace in San Sebastián during 8 – 11 October 2017. India participated as the "Invited Country" in this year´s edition titled "India – the cuisine with spices" celebrating India´s traditional and contemporary cuisines and chefs.

Gastronomika 2017 has brought together the best Indian chefs from across the world to present the vast diversity of cuisines in India and their global outreach. Chefs Gaggan Anand (Bangkok), Srijith Gopinathan (San Francisco), Srirarm Aylur, Vineet Bathia, Karunesh Khanna and Camelia Panjabi (London), Majit S. Gill, Manish Mehrotra, Praveen Anand, Gulam Qureshi, J.P. Singh and Saurabh Udinia (Delhi), Ivan Surinder (Barcelona), Varun Mohan (Chennai) and Thomas Zacharias (Mumbai) participated in Gastronomika 2017 and thrilled visitors with demonstration of a wide variety of concepts of Indian cuisine and the philosophy, harmony and diversity that it embodies. Gastronomika 2017 also entertained hundreds of curious visitors with exotic combinations of Indian and Basque dishes at the "Street Food" stand outside the Kursaal Palace.

Taking advantage of India´s significant presence at San Sebastián Gastronomika 2017, the Embassy of India, in collaboration with the Basque Government, organized a working breakfast session to present business opportunities in India in the food processing sector and invite companies to participate in World Food India 2017 being held in New Delhi during 3 – 5 November 2017. Mr DB Venkatesh Varma, Ambassador of India, participated in the session with Mr Bittor Oroz, Vice Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Policy, Basque Government. A press conference was also organized to present World Food India 2017 and encourage active participation from Spanish companies. Ambassador participated in the official inauguration of San Sebastián Gastronomika 2017 and interacted with Indian and Spanish chefs participating in the Congress and congratulated them for their contribution to strengthen India Spain bilateral relations.
