Bilateral Cultural Relations Print

A Cultural Agreement between India and Spain was signed in 1982 and ever since Cultural Exchange Programmes have been agreed to. The CEP for 2005-2008 was finalised at the meeting of the Joint Commission for Cultural Cooperation held in Madrid in March 2005.

In addition, there has been considerable amount of cultural activity between the two countries outside the CEP. There was a Spanish Film Festival in Delhi and Spain participated as a guest country in the Kolkata Book Fair in February 2006. Imagine India, an Indian Film Festival was held for the seventh time in Madrid in May-June 2008.

Casa de la India

As a result of collaboration between the Municipal Corporation of Valladolid, the University of Valladolid and the Embassy of India in Madrid, an India Centre Casa de la India has been formed in the city of Valladolid. The Casa constitutes a new platform for the dissemination of Indian culture in Spain. The building of Casa de la India was inaugurated by Shri Anand Sharma, MOS on 11 November 2006.

Civil Society Dialogue

At the initiative of the Embassy of India in Madrid, Casa Asia, Casa de la India and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries, a Civil Society Dialogue in the form of an India–Spain seminar was launched. The first India-Spain seminar was held in Valladolid in February 2005. The format of the seminar has been restructured as a Tribune for Civil Society Dialogue with Casa Asia/Casa de la India and Indian Council of World Affairs as the coordinating institutions from Spain and India respectively. The first meeting of this Tribune was held in Barcelona in December 2005, the second in New Delhi in October 2006 and the third in Valladolid in October 2007
